How To Keep Staff Motivated For Better Business

When you have a business, the hardest thing to do sometimes is to motivate yourself. It takes effort, a lot of it, and it takes a lot of determination to succeed. If it’s your own business, this may be easier to source, but you will still have those days, so motivating your staff is even harder. First of all, you need to know your business inside out. What are you selling, who are you selling it to, what do they want, what do you want, what are your goals? What do you think you can achieve in 3 years? Or 5 years? Or 10 years? Knowing your people and your demographics is vital.

Ways To Motivate Employees

You can motivate your employees by looking into professional assistance that can really help. You can find out more about employee engagement and wellbeing. Taking their wellbeing into consideration is also very important if you want to get the best out of them. If things are difficult at home or they are struggling with their workload, being able to talk to you, and having an understanding is going to help greatly. As well as implementing some other strategies and tips too:

  1. Catch Them Doing Right. Encourage staff to stay motivated by regularly recognizing them for good work. …
  2. Have Fun. Create a work atmosphere that encourages employee input. …
  3. Set a Good Example -build positive communications skills to help them appreciate good communication and feel as if they have a positive relationship with you also.
  4. Share Profits – give your staff rewards for working hard, give them shares in any profits and good shares, where you are able to or invest it back into them.
  5. Support Non-Profit charities including some that they like themselves.
  6. Give them rewards such as bonus schemes, vouchers and discount codes that they can use.
  7. Make the office space and working areas communal and fun, even if that’s just something as simple as adding a coffee machine or a games area.

Setting Expectations

Your staff members need to know what their job is too. There should be no grey areas and they should have their own designated tasks and not feel that they have to help others at any point, unless they have the time to. Ensuring that the job descriptions from day one are very clear, and focus on the skills and attributes Use success stories that include these skills which will help incentify them. If you keep them motivated and keep them happy then they will naturally want to produce better work. Be lenient with them, within reason, whether it’s wanting to work from home or take some time off or perhaps changing their working times, it’s about finding a balance and this is easier to do than you think. It’s about putting yourself in their shoes and thinking about what would motivate you if you were in that situation. Communication is key, rewards are good, as is keeping your staff well being at the forefront of your mind at all times. It’s the most positive thing you can do as a manager.
