This is a contributed post. Please refer to my disclosure for more information.

There are so many benefits to being a driving instructor, branching out to be a freelance driving instructor or even launching a driving instructor franchise.

your new business

Demand

From a very early age, many children are interested in cars, and that eventually blossoms into the want to drive. Even people 20,30,40 and older find a reason to get on the road most of the time. Teenagers hit the legal age to start driving every day, and they need someone to teach them! You can choose to work all the hours you have or opt for the most popular hours booked by learners. The choice is yours.

New People

If you like to meet new people, you are going to meet plenty. For 60 minutes a week, you will get short snippets of someone’s life, as you teach them a life-long skill. Even though you are in your own car, you get to meet numerous people every day. It can make the work really interesting, and certainly varies.

Job Satisfaction

This one is a huge benefit to becoming a driving instructor. Many jobs you don’t always get to see the end result of your work. It gets handed off down the line, or taken over by the management. When you become a driving instructor, you get the satisfaction of preparing your students for their tests, supporting them if they fail, and celebrating with them when they pass.

There are those surprises of a nervous driver who has a totally clean sheet on their tests, and the ones that take 15 tests and then finally pass. Job satisfaction is a big bonus.

Security

As long as people need to drive a car, there will be a need for driving instructors. There is even a teenager who is taking courses between 14-17 to prepare them to take real lessons on the road. The average hours required to pass a driving test now is 45 of professional tuition and even some on the side.

Even the fastest learner will still need to work with a professional driving instructor in order to pass. You can be safe in the knowledge that being able to teach people to drive, people means you will always be at work.

Earning

Driving instructors are reported to make around £25+ per hour, after fees and petrol. This works out easily to £30,000 per year when you have a reputation, or you have the support of a franchise. You can choose how much you work to support the lifestyle that you want. After a few years of experience, and depending on the city you work in will impact your yearly income.

Work-Life Balance

Perhaps the most significant factor is that you have total control of your work-life balance. You can give lessons while the kids are in school, or at weekends when people really need them. Whatever suits your lifestyle is totally possible.
