Office Relocation Tips that will Reduce Stress

Are you due to move offices soon? If so, then you will want to make the whole process as simple and as easy as possible. If you don’t, then you may find that you end up experiencing way more stress than you need. One way for you to work around this would be for you to be proactive about your move, and to take steps that are going to make life easier for you.

This is a contributed post. Please refer to my disclosure for more information.

Start the Planning Process Early

The first thing you need to do is start the planning process early. Give yourself three months of time to put a clear plan together. Evaluate what has to be moved, and find out if it has to be donated or eliminated. Charities will happily accept any old office furniture you have, but you can’t guarantee that they will dispose of your electronics securely. Advanced planning will help you to streamline everything and it will also help you to eliminate any unnecessary hiccups. If you haven’t done so yet, it would be wise for you to have a chat with your moving coordinator. They can help you to find out what you need to move, and what steps you can take to make sure that everything arrives safely. If possible, you also need to ask them if they can provide you with liquidation services, as this could eliminate a lot of data worries for you. Take a Tour

Another thing you need to do is take a tour of the new office location. When you have a good idea of the physical layout of the space, you will then be able to organize your furniture and figure out who is going to sit where. If you can make sure that you have a solid game plan, then this will make it easier for you to keep everything organized. Again, it’s wise for you to plan and make sure that you are prepared for just about anything.

Focus on the Floor Plan

When the time comes for you to make your initial business arrangements, it’s so important that you use the floor plan as a guide. List any changes on your website so when people search for your brand online, they are aware of any address changes that could potentially affect their visit. At this time, it’s a good idea for you to leave a disclaimer on your company voicemail. Here you will need to state that you are going to be changing location, and potentially phone numbers. This is the best way for you to eliminate any miscommunication between you and your customers.

Move Non-Essential Items

Conduct an analysis of all of the items you have. Put items into two categories. You should have essential and non-essential items. Carefully label your boxes and do what you can to minimize the hassle associated with unpacking. If you can do this, then you should find it easier to settle into your new office.
