Could Creating an Office at Home be Ideal for You?

When it comes to corporate culture, we’re all too used to working from the comfort (or sometimes, controlling nature) of a communal office environment. This can often be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it can feel like you’re a cow in a herd. Sometimes there’s no privacy – but it’s what we get used to. Plus, we don’t always get a say over what the offices are like, how modern or stylish, or what facilities there are. Yet, there are positives too – such as community collaboration and the social side of things. Plus, if you are in a well-designed office, you’re onto a winner.

This is a contributed post. Please refer to my disclosure for more information.

But what about when you work for yourself? Do you have to suffer working from the sofa or spend an enormous amount of money on coworking? Or can you create something at home that really serves you? Let’s take a look.

Getting Outside

So for starters, you might want to get outside. Having an office in your garden is all the rage right now. And some of the pop-up style spots look incredible too. You can get them fully kitted out for you or make your own. With an outbuilding or shed, look to convert it into a fully usable office space. Grab yourself some furniture, suitable blinds for office spaces, and even kitchen equipment too and you’re good to go.

Transforming a Spare

But what if you don’t have the space outside or you really don’t want to be away from the building? Then you can totally transform a spare room into your office space – or even just half it and have it as a multi-function room. It’s all about being scrappy with what you have and making it work. Plus, with the right styling and intention, it could become the space of your dreams too.

Setting Up Shop

If you do have a suitable study space downstairs in your home, this could also be a no-brainer option for your office. Maybe you don’t like the idea of being upstairs or you want to be able to shut the door on work at the end of the day and have it feel that way, not mixed in the center of your home or in a room with dual purpose? Utilizing your study space could be the perfect solution here. Again, you can bring in the same finishing touches to bring it to life.

Sitting Up Above

Finally, you’ve also got your attic to think about. However, if this isn’t converted yet, you’re going to want to focus on that first. Converting the space to make it liveable is the best place to start, and then you can deck it all out with your working wonders. Being high up can have a great feeling about it – as well as giving you the impression of being tucked away. But you could also consider converting your basement or garage too. There are many options here.
