If you want to get away from the world of corporate business this year to spread your wings elsewhere, we don’t blame you. The business world is a complex and stressful place, and between your deadlines, employee drama and the pension scheme: working in an office can get old real fast.
Making the leap away from this life to start your own business can be scary, but just imagine how great it could really be to get up each morning and sit in bed while you work in building your empire. Here’s how to start a great business from your bed this year.
This is a contributed post. Please refer to my disclosure for more information.
Cut out distractions
The first thing you will need to do before you start to work from home is cut out your distractions. When you are at home it is far too easy to become distracted by chores you need to do around the house, or things which you could eat and drink during the day. Stay in an area of the house which is quiet and which you only use for your work. This will allow you to work throughout your day and then shut work behind you in the evening and come ‘home’.
Set deadlines
Working for yourself has many perks, and one of the biggest perks is that you get to set the rules. However, setting the rules for your working is essential if you want you to stay on track because you can easily get far behind with your work if you let yourself. When you start the day, give yourself time slots to complete different tasks. Ensure that you get enough of each job done each day and this will allow you to stay on top of the running of your business right from day one.
Get dressed
Although there’s nothing stopping you from staying in your pyjamas all day every day, being in your evening clothes will make you feel incredibly cosy and this isn’t what you need to motivate you during your working day. Make sure that you get dressed in the morning into something which is comfortable but made for the day. This will immediately make you feel more productive and you are likely to work more effectively from the word go. This allows you to separate your day from the evening and it will be good for your mental state.
Work with your family or friends
Sometimes the best way to work is with the people you love. If you fancy starting up your own business, you can get together with your family or your friends and put your skills into one project. The bonus of starting a business with your loved ones is that you will be much more motivated to succeed and there will be no awkwardness between you like there is when you end up with a new employee. Hiring family and friends can be the best decision you ever make.
Make a schedule
It is important to be organised in your business. You will want to keep on top of your finances, marketing, sales, think about Parcel2Go for shipping, and still have time to come up with new ideas for products. Scheduling your time throughout the week or the month is crucial when you are on your own because there are a lot of elements of running a business which you need to keep on top of. Make time for everything, and make sure that you still have the time to complete your everyday work alongside this.
Get space
When you first start a business, you will likely not have a lot of money to work with. This can mean that you end up simply cramped up in your living room or your spare room day after day. This can be damaging to the growth of your business and therefore you need to think about ways to make more space. If you still want to work at home, you can create an office in your backyard out of a shed and some electrics. It will be private, spacious and a great place to work.
Know when to move
The key to a successful venture is knowing when it’s time to move on. You might be coping with the space you have at home right now, however, there will come a time when you need more space and more manpower to help you along. Know when it’s time to rent out an office and look for employees. This way, you can keep growing and thriving with your business for years to come.
