Human beings have been sharing stories since the beginning of time. Most scientists assume that language developed as the first storytelling tool. As such, it’s fair to say that if you’ve been reading business strategies that emphasize storytelling strategies, there is nothing new in the phenomenon. You have to tell your story if you want people to care about your content.
You probably are familiar with The White Stripes lyrics:
Every single one’s got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it
From the Queen of England to the Hounds of Hell
But before you start tapping your fingers on the desk to the melody, take a second to consider this. If everybody has got a story to tell – at least one –, how come we don’t hear or read about it? How many stories have been told and ignored? The answer is not quantifiable. Yet, the reason why your story may not receive the attention it needs may have to do with the technical side of storytelling.

Creating a network of like-minded people
Blogging is the most accessible platform to share your story. However, as a blogger, you’re competing against millions of other blogs for readers. You need to develop the right techniques to improve your blog’s presence and awareness. Online networking, such as connecting to other bloggers for link building strategies, can increase your reach. You have to master Search Engine Optimization, SEO for short, to make sure your story gets seen. Link building within your blogging network, finding a popular and keyword-rich niche, and developing targeted content can boost your ranking in the SERPs.
An image speaks volume
Words can tell your story, but so can images. Whether you decide to turn to vlogging permanently or add a short film to illustrate your blog, videos receive one of the highest engagement rates. If you are not familiar with video and animation generation, you can find support from a dedicated website that can make complex topics accessible. Words don’t always get your meaning across, but a video can.
Speak out; we’re listening
Podcasts offer an easily digestible content form. Not everyone is comfortable reading a long text. However, if you are going to speak out your content, you may find that your audience group will be happy to tune in to your podcast. Recording and publishing a podcast is a different type of exercise. For bloggers who want to make the move toward audio-based content, it’s essential to understand the various audio equipment available. Additionally, it’s a good idea to run a few trial recordings until you’re feeling confident enough to speak for podcast quality.
Make it look professional
Pictures bring your audience to the heart of your story. They show your environment and can differentiate you from other content creators. However, if you’re not an experienced photograph, you need to invest in editing tools for your platform. From building a professional-looking infographic about your journey through college to creating an Instagram-worthy header image, graphic software solutions can enhance your story.
Your words are your weapons when it comes to storytelling. However, even the best weapons need some strategic enhancements. Think of technical additions as engagement improvements that will make your story stand out. Be heard, be read, be seen, but, more importantly, be technically equipped to achieve your goals.
