Tips To Help You Furnish Your First Office

Upgrading from a coworking space, or your home office, to your very own office space, is an exciting time for your business but is also one that comes with its own set of challenges – one of which is furnishing it. Unless you’re renting a fully furnished office, then you’re likely going to need to invest in everything from desks to chairs so here is a quick guide to help you get it right.

First impressions count

As you, your employees, or most importantly, your potential clients, walk into your office, it is essential that they are met with a good first impression. If you are going to spend money decorating your space, then let the entranceway have priority. Whether you have a reception area or not, there is always room for some stylish furniture for guests to sit on while they wait for their meeting and don’t forget to incorporate some of your brand identity into the design too.

Invest in ergonomic desk furniture

Ergonomic desk furniture may be more expensive, but it is worth it to protect the posture of your employees while they work. Consider investing in convertible standing desks for those who prefer to stand rather than sit, and shop around for a high-quality ergonomic chair that can be adjusted to meet the requirements of each individual. Ergonomic furniture can help to reduce the number of sick days that employees take and will also make them more productive too.

Add some plants

Plants are an office’s best friend, adding colour and texture as well as helping to keep the air clean, improve productivity and reduce stress. Low maintenance plants such as the Snake Plant, need very little care, but if you don’t think that you can keep up with your plant maintenance yourself, there are many professional indoor plant care services available who will water and feed them on your behalf to keep them healthy and looking their best.

Have a rest area for your employees

Even in small office spaces, it is important to designate a rest area for your employees to eat and relax while on their break so that they do not spend their break time eating at their desk. Some simple cafe furniture and a small kitchenette are all you really need, however, if you have the space to do so, then investing in a good coffee machine and some additional kitchen facilities will always be greatly appreciated by your staff.

Put your own stamp on it

Last but not least, don’t forget to put your own stamp on your office space. Fill it with your own personality to truly make it the home of your brand and don’t be afraid to create a space that stands out from the crowd. It’s often the small finishing touches, such as wall hangings, wall cladding and trinkets, that make an office feel like home – if you need help with creating an interior design that reflects your brand then you may want to consider using the services of an interior designer.

Furnishing your first office should be fun, so don’t forget to enjoy this magical time with your start-up team.
